San Antonio River Walk

Millions of people visit the River Walk each year to enjoy this unusual urban sanctuary that winds along the San Antonio river in central San Antonio, one story below the bustling street level.

The lush landscapes, quaint pathways, tinkling waterfalls, quiet pools, outdoor art and relaxing outdoor patios evoke the renowned public spaces of Europe.

What started as the vision of a young architect, in 1929, has grown, over the decades, into one of the world's most distinctive meeting places -- old and new friends meet up, travelers pause, families congregate, lovers gaze; and weddings, reunions, business meetings spill over into the River Walk.

San Antonio is hands down the most popular city for Texas visitors. From historical sites to modern day attractions, San Antonio has plenty to keep visitors entertained - no matter the length of their stay.

1. Remember the Alamo

The Alamo is not only one of Texas’ most important historical landmarks, it is also one of the state’s most popular tourist attractions, with over 2.5 million visitors annually. During the Battle of the Alamo, which occurred in 1836, over 150 “Texians” died, including some of the state’s most famous folk heroes such as Davie Crockett, Jim Bowie and William Barrett Travis.

2. See Shamu

SeaWorld has long been known as a leader in marine exhibits and waterpark entertainment. SeaWorld San Antonio lives up to its billing, featuring marine life shows and displays, adventure camps, thrilling rides, a water park and, of course, the world famous 'Shamu.'

3. Spur on the Spurs

San Antonio's only major sports franchise, the Spurs, are multiple National Basketball Association World Champions. Seeing them play in their hometown is always an exhilarating experience.

4. Fiesta at Fiesta Texas

San Antonio's Six Flags Fiesta Texas has been one of Texas' top attractions since its inception. This massive theme park offers the only "floorless" roller coaster in the southwest, plus over 100 rides - including Tony Hawk's Big spin, shows, a waterpark and more.

5. Dine on the Riverwalk

The San Antonio Riverwalk is one of Texas' most popular tourist attraction. In addition to breathtaking views and excellent shopping, the Riverwalk is home to some of San Antonio's finest restaurants.

6. Visit a Museum

San Antonio has plenty to see and do. However, many visitors to the Alamo City are unaware of the many quality museums which are scattered throughout the city.

7. Explore Cascade Caverns

Located just outside San Antonio, Cascade Caverns offer visitors a look beneath the surface of the Texas Hill Country. The cavern stays 68 degrees year around - making it a perfect place to beat the summer heat - plus it features a 100 foot underground waterfall!

8. Visit Natural Bridge

An underground wonder, Natural Bridge Caverns shows the family a side of the world they probably haven't seen. In addition to a variety of subterranean tours, Natural Bridge Caverns offers a host of above-ground educational activities for kids of all ages.

9. Spend a Day at the Zoo

One of the largest zoos in the nation, the San Antonio Zoo houses over 3,500 animals, making it a must see for kids and adults alike.

10. Shop in La Villita

La Villita - Spanish for "little town" - was one of the original neighborhoods in old San Antonio. Today it is full of gift shops, artisan studios, restaurants and other atractions.
